Electronic and Magnetic Raman Effect in Garnets.

Abstract

The report summarizes the results of research of the electronic and magnetic Raman effect in garnets. The principal results include the determination of Raman active phonons and electronic levels in DyAlG, DyGaG, YbAlG, YbGaG, and LuAlG. The experimental and theoretical techniques developed during this period can be readily applied to all other rare-earth garnets; in particular, rare earth in iron garnets, which may offer potentials for tunable IR quantum detectors and tunable lasers.
