Abstract
The Fifth Anglo-American Military Psychiatry Symposium was held in May, 1970, at the USAF Columbia Club in London, under the joint sponsorship of Air Commodore P. J. O'Connor, Senior Advisor in Psychiatry to the Director Medical General, RAF; Col. Stewart L. Baker, Jr., Neuropsychiatric Consultant, USAR-EUR; and (Capt. USNR) Ivan N. Mensh, Liaison Scientist, ONR London. Reports of studies and discussion of these and related military and civilian psychiatric issues were carried on by the three sponsors; Wing Commander Eric Anthony, RAF, on a psychiatric consultation model for the military; Surg. Capt. Geoffrey G. Wallis, RN, on selection for the military; Major Peter Abraham, RAMC, on psychiatric selection in the British Army's pilot scheme for selection and allocation of army recruits; Col. E. R. Ware, RA Project Officer for the pilot scheme; I. N. Mensh's review of Richard H. Rahe's studies of life crises as predictors of illness, one of the research programs of the US Navy's Medical Neuropsychiatric Research Unit at San Diego; and 17 other participants, psychiatrists from the RAF, Royal Army, Royal Navy, and US Army.
