The Institute for Plasma Research at the University of Stuttgart,

Abstract

The report gives an account of a liaison visit to the Institute for Plasma Research of the University of Stuttgart, which is under the direction of Prof. Dr. R. Wienecke, and which as recently as 1969 moved into a new building located in the modern campus outside the city. The main lines of research at present comprise: Plasma focus; Laser applications; Plasma heating and waves; Techniques for measuring extremely short intervals of time; numerical studies of the propagation of waves in inhomogeneous magnetoplasmas. The Stuttgart Institute has a staff of some 30 researchers with a PhD or equivalent and, as such, ranks third in West Germany (the other two being Garching and Julich) and first as a Laboratory attached to a university.
