A Spatial Frequency Technique for Imaging and Remote Gauging.

Abstract

A technique for obtaining the spatial frequency spectrum of the cross section of an image is examined and its limitations are discussed. The technique employs a rotating radial grating on which a slit selected portion of an image of the object is projected. The intensity of the image transmitted by the grating is collected and measured by a photodetector. It is shown that the frequency components of the detector signal are directly related to the spatial frequency components of the image and that the resolution in the reconstructed image depends on the number of harmonics measured and the accuracy of the measurement. The effects of the other factors on the implementation of this technique are also discussed. (Author)
