Recreational Interest Trends.

Abstract

The report explores trends in the recreational interests of men and women in various occupations, comparing interests between the sexes and possible trends within each sex over time. Items from the Activities and Amusements sections of four different forms of the Strong Vocational Interest Blank are used in the analysis. The literature review discusses previous studies which explored the importance of leisure time activities, people's conceptions of how one should use one's leisure time, the types of activities participated in by people at different occupational levels and in different socioeconomic classes, and the various kinds of possible activities. The study itself found that men and women differ in their recreational interests, although not as much as one would expect, and that there are differences within the sexes over time. However, few of the differences are very great. (Author)
