Optical Alignment Technique.

Abstract

An optical technique was developed to assure proper alignment of a missile warhead section assembly stand. The initial alignment of an assembly stand was successfully performed at Sierra Army Depot. The required radial tolerance of 0.002 inch at the assembly stand aft plate was obtained. The technique is recommended for future assembly stand setup and inspection. It could be adapted to similar assembly applications, using special fixturing or commercially available equipment. (Author)
