An Analysis of Design Concepts for Mechanical Simulation of Multistage Flight Acceleration.

Abstract

The report analyzes typical functional accelerator requirements and two proposed design concepts. The basic conclusion of this report is that the proposed 'Track' concept appears to be technically feasible; offering considerable advantages over the variable radius centrifuge concept. Conventional centrifuge testing of functional requirements of arming and safing devices utilized in nuclear warhead adaption kits is unrealistic due to extremely high rates of change in acceleration which these items will experience in actual use. In order to assure proper functioning in flight, test equipment is required which will simulate the actual acceleration-time characteristics experienced. (Author)
