Band Structure Investigations by Ultrasonic Susceptibility, and Galvanomagnetic Measurements.

Abstract

The elastic constants, the dielectric constant and the thermal expansion of alkali halides have been investigated. Theoretical calculations have been made of cohesive energy, lattice constants and elastic constants on a strictly quantum mechanical basis. The Fermi surface of antimony has been studied by magnetoacoustic resonance at arbitrary angles between the sound wave and the magnetic field. Acoustic cyclotron resonance has been observed, giving data on the non-ellipsoidal Fermi surface. The de Haas-van Alphen effect has been used for the study of the degenerate semi-conductor, Sb2Te3, and the metal, Ir. The spin structure of phosphides and germanides of 3d-elements has been studied by susceptibility, magnetization, conductivity and specific heat measurements. The three polymorphs of FeGe have been studied most extensively. Other materials studied are Fe3P, Fe2P, FeP2, etc. (Author)
