The Measurement of Particle Velocity in Cast TNT

Abstract

The electromagnetic velocity (EMV) gage was used to measure particle velocity vs time behavior in detonating cast TNT. Chapman-Jouguet (C-J) particle velocity and the reaction time could not be determined with confidence from a single record. These parameters were determined as 1.60 mm/microsecond and 300 ns, respectively, by studying a series of records obtained by placing the EMV gage at different distances from the booster.
