Notes on Quasi-Wundy Code

Abstract

A derivation is presented of the basic equations of the Quasi-Wundy Code; this code is widely used for computer calculations relating to explosive systems. The paper begins with the basic notions and attempts to clear up the confusion concerning Lagrangian and Eulerian equations which is all too common in the literature. A brief derivation of the fundamental equations of continuum mechanics follows and these equations are then differenced to give the equations of the code in the form actually employed in the code. The computational procedure is then discussed and two questions which often arise with respect to the working of the code are answered. It is hoped that this paper will provide a background for answering other questions as they arise.
