Relating U. S. Air Force Mission Forces and Central Supply and Maintenance Resources,

Abstract

The study provides a basis for developing quantitative methods that will permit rapid estimation of resources required in Program 7 of the DoD Five Year Defense Program (FYDP) to support alternative force structures of the US Air Force. The Study effort consisted of: A review of related research and of the existing methods used to develop resource requirements; The development of an institutional framework that relates weapon system inventories to major central supply and maintenance functions, policies, and resources; The investigation of appropriate quantitative methods to permit rapid estimation of the Program 7 resources. The results provide unique bases for understanding the Air Force's central supply and maintenance system preparatory to quantitative resource analysis. Coincidentally, they are of use to decisionmakers who may critically review the Air Force logistic support system to increase its effectiveness or adapt it to changing circumstances. (Author)
