Gear Transmissions. Cog and Worm Gears,

Abstract

The current state of the strength calculation of involute cylindrical and conical gear transmissions, worm gear transmissions with cylindrical and globoidal worm gears is discussed in this book. Data concerning the manufacture of gear transmissions and information concerning materials used and their thermal treatment are presented for the benefit of the designer. The conditions for increasing the load capacity of a transmission are discussed at length. Particular attention is devoted to methods of arriving at the optimal geometrical parameters with aid of block outlines. The sections on load distribution through the length of the teeth and on fracture calculation of spiral teeth are revised and supplemented. New data concerning the possibility of increasing tolerable stresses for the design of gears are included. The concept of evaluating the probability of damage to gear transmissions under different stress conditions is set forth. (Author)
