Magnetic Thyristor Logical Elements,

Abstract

A discussion of the elements of the title and their applications in logic circuits is given. The elements consist of thyristors blocked by control electrodes, and magnetic cores with rectangular hysteresis loops. Because of the high pulse load of the thyristors and their characteristic internal memory, they are free from the weaknesses of magnetic diodes and transistors. The schematics of several possible circuits using these elements are considered, and the operation of those circuits is explained. A listing is given of the requirements of blocking thyristors used in logic circuits. The data afforded by the authors' preliminary researches and analyses of the thyristor parameters show that the magnetic thyristor logic elements have the following advantages: ease of miniaturization; simple indications of the state of the elements are possible; nondestructive readings; control power required is less than that for transistors, and the load capacity is greater; hence these elements offer possibilities of microminiaturization in the form of hybrid circuits.
