The Mass Spectrometry of Aromatic Azides.

Abstract

The mass spectra of organic azides show prominent molecular ion peaks, although their relative intensities decrease on ortho (particularly o-nitro) substitution, except when modified in disubstituted species. The first step in the fragmentation process is the elimination of molecular nitrogen: bromophenazides provide the only exception, and loss of the halogen can occur as the first step. (Author)
