Analysis of Spontaneous Activity Films by a Fully Automated Analyzer,
Abstract
Space cabin toxicology experiments conducted by the Air Force Aerospace Medical Research Laboratories concluded that spontaneous activity of unrestricted dogs measured by time lapse photography would furnish good behavioral information when properly analyzed. Several hundred hours of photographic data were obtained and a large amount was analyzed using visual and rudimentary electronic techniques. Due to the time consuming task of analyzing the large amount of data, it was theorized that an electronic system could be developed which would automatically categorize and display the change in spontaneous activities and further refine the experimental and analysis techniques used to analyze the time lapse photographic data.
