Hematologic Changes as Indicators of Toxicity,
Abstract
The toxicologist does not have available to him very many cellular systems that are both highly responsive to a variety of toxic agents and easily accessible for serial sampling. Blood, however, is such a tissue. Modern technological developments such as instruments for counting and sizing blood cells, measuring resistance to hemolysis by hypotonic solutions and other lytic agents and automatic image analysis systems that permit accurate measurement of subtle morphological changes enhance the significance of blood cell changes as indicators of toxicity.
