Method of Obtaining a Polymeric Multipurpose Oil Additive,

Abstract

A Russian patent has been issued for a preparative method for a polymeric multipurpose additive to (lubricating) oils, involving the reaction of a polymeric compound with phosphorus pentasulfide, hydrolysis of the resulting product, and subsequent treatment of the hydrolysis product with an alkylene-polyamine and boric acid. To raise the effectiveness of the additive, the polymeric compound used is the copolymer of an alpha-olefin with a vinylaromatic compound such as an isobutylene-styrene copolymer. (Author)
