A New Fallout Transport Code for the DELFIC System: The Diffusive Transport Module.

Abstract

A new fallout transport model and code has been developed for the Defense Land Fallout Interpretative Code (DELFIC). This model stresses the combined effects on transport of vertical turbulent diffusion and particle settling. The model transports fallout either via the conventional advection plus settling mode. The mode choice, which is made independently for each fallout parcel by the program, is based on atmospheric conditions and parcel properties. Alternatively, transport can be done exclusively by advection plus settling. In any case, turbulent dispersion in the horizontal is accounted for. This code replaces the DELFIC Transport Module that is described in DASA-1800-IV. (Author)
