Theoretical Limitation on Information Retrieval from Physical and Communication Systems by Repeated Precise Measurements,

Abstract

The report discusses a theoretical limitation on the ability to communicate over a channel (or obtain information about a physical system) due to accumulated entropy associated with irreversible thermodynamic processes (measurement of the signals used to transmit information). This increasing uncertainty is shown to cause the transinformation to be a decreasing function as the number of observations increases. (Author)
