The Scientific Results of the Flights of the Automatic Ionospheric Laboratory 'Yantar'. Part III,

Abstract

With the help of geophysical rockets at altitudes of 100-400 km the automatic ionospheric laboratories 'Yantar' with gas plasma-ion engines were launched to investigate the possibilities of controlling flight in the upper layers of the atmosphere. The performance of the gas plasma-ion engines operating on argon, nitrogen, and air was investigated under conditions of flight in the atmosphere. The parameters characterizing the interaction of the ion jet with ionospheric plasma and the parameters of the neutral atmosphere were measured. The report contains the scientific results of the in-flight experiments conducted. (Author)
