Experimental and Theoretical Research on Wear of Charging Unit Parts,

Abstract

Results are cited of experiments on the wear of fragments of charging units of the blast furnaces of the imeni Dzerzhinskiy, 'Krivorozhstal',' and 'Zaporozhstal' plants. The fragments simulated the point of contact of the small cone with the basin on a full scale and had differing designs of the inlet edges. Wear proved to be the least for fragments with long edges near the points of contact. Proceeding from the theory of the impact of a solid against a flat surface, there was obtained the value of the dust-particle velocity at which deformation and cutting wear of the contact surface begins. Formulas of wear are cited, and the relationship of wear to the angle of attack for soft and hard metals is indicated. (Author)
