Machine for Expanding Honeycomb Structures,

Abstract

The author certificate introduces a machine for expanding honeycomb structures. The machine consists of a stand on which are mounted expanding carriages with drives and fingers with rollers in the grooves of guide blocks, a master control unit, a cell facing mechanism which consists of a bearing plate, an intermediate plate with teeth, and an upper plate with teeth connected to the pistons of double cylinders and with facing rollers mounted on movable arms. To improve the operating efficiency and to make possible expanding of packs of various lengths, the machine is furnished with a mechanism which can vary the pitch between the holders. The mechanism consists of a hollow splined shaft with movable spring-loaded rings connected to holders. A profiled arm interacts through a gear transmission with the shaft and structure-expanding carriages. A modified version of the above machine has adjustable teeth on the upper and intermediate plates. The intermediate plate is furnished with cylinders mounted in its longitudinal grooves for adjusting the angle of expansion.
