Nuclear Medicine at Institute of Medicine, Julich, Germany,

Abstract

The Federal Republic of Germany has an Atomic Energy Facility at Julich, which is very similar to the National Atomic Energy Commission at Brookhaven, Long Island, New York. The Medical Department is oriented to introducing safe, simple, radioactive procedures for diagnostic and therapeutic applications in clinical medicine. The introduction of a radioactive, non-invasive procedure (gamma retina) to evaluate the cardiovascular system is an important contribution. The present projects also include: the in vivo determination of site and rate of insulin catabolism using the double tracer technique to measure DNA synthesis; the studies of the structure of DNA: the use of neutron activation analyses to measure trace metals in biological tissue; the culturing of leukemic cells in agar; the study of DNA synthesis in leukemia cells.
