A Refined Measurement of Aerodynamic Pressures over Progressive Water Waves.

Abstract

Improved pressure sensing and wave following systems for the investigation of the characteristics of the turbulent air stream in the vicinity of air-water interface were developed. A reappraisal of Miles' inviscid theory was made. A carefully controlled experiment designed to match assumptions was performed by using the newly developed systems. The wave-induced pressure signal was extracted by using a waveform educator. The result, in terms of both pressure magnitude and phase angle, was summarized with the experimental results of others to compare with Miles' inviscid theory. (Author)
