Abstract

Naturally occurring sounds of the white whale, Delphinapterus leucas, were played back underwater to both captive and free-ranging animals. 12 sounds selected from recordings made of the 4 whales held captive at the N. Y. Aquarium were played back to the same animals underwater. (Author)
