Evaluation of Flight Plan Position Information Display for Oceanic Control.

Abstract

The purpose of this project was to evaluate the concept of using computer-generated Flight Plan Position Display (FPPD) information as presented on pictorial and tabular displays for the control of air traffic in oceanic sectors and other areas of nonradar coverage. Specific objectives were: (1) determine the accuracy of over-ocean flight plans from which Flight Plan Aided (FPA) tracking can be displayed; (2) investigate the operational utility of FPPD information and associated symbology; and (3) investigate the feasibility of utilizing FPPD information as a replacement for the printed flight profress strip.
