Evaluation of Communication Systems Operating in a Dynamic Mode.

Abstract

The study deals with a general methodology for evaluating the throughput of civil defense (CD) communication systems at the local level using a statistical approach based on Poisson and exponential distributions. Two models are presented for simple queue discipline with no priorities, one pertaining to a single message-processing man/machine combination at a node, and the other to several man/machine combinations operating in parallel. Equations and working curves with normalized parameters are presented, permitting general application. From these, relevant items of interest--such as the mean length of messages in queue at a node, the mean delay in the queue, the probability of occurrence of various delays and queue lengths, and so forth--can be obtained. The methods of procedure for analysis are illustrated with numerical examples. (Author)
