Development of a Job Task Inventory for Commanding Officers of Amphibious Ships

Abstract

The study demonstrates that a high level line officer position, in this case the CO of an amphibious ship, can be defined in terms of a task inventory. This brings together in one well-organized reference the numerous requirements from many sources which affect and regulate this position. It will be used as a basis for revision of the PCO/PXO course at the Naval Amphibious School Coronado. It is recommended that task inventories should be developed for all officer positions on all ship types and used as a basis for the development of a training system compatible with other personnel management systems.
