Multiple Precision Arithmetic Design with an Implementation on the UNIVAC 1108.

Abstract

The report discusses the design of a multiple precision arithmetic unit and illustrates with an implementation written for the UNIVAC 1108. The arichmetic unit which is described operates on multiple precision numbers in a manner similar to existing floating point capabilities and offers additional facilities not currently available in hardware. Many of the conclusions are applicable to hardware floating point arithmetic design. (Author)
