Optimization of LOGOS I System (Phase II).
Abstract
The report documents a research and development effort directed at optimization of the LOGOS I System for machine translation from technical English into Vietnamese. The following tasks were accomplished: expansion of the lexicographic data base of the System through addition of approximately 30,000 new terms in aeronautical, electronic, artillery and general technical areas; refinements in linguistic data base of the System, with a heavy emphasis on English resolution and Vietnamese transformation tables; experimentation with input processing techniques; development of an automated post-editing subsystem; development of a photocomposition subsystem for a large scale production of output in Vietnamese; pilot production of English-Vietnamese machine translation, including AFM-51-37, Instrument Flying, and JPA Training Manual for C123K Aircraft, and collection and analysis of cost/effectiveness data for all phases of machine translation production from input through final print.
