Mathematical Analysis.
Abstract
Two special research programs were conducted under this Grant; the first, during the academic year 1969-70, in mathematical analysis, the second, during the academic year 1970-71, in number theory. The former included research in mean-periodicity in several variables, topics in the theory of lifting, the mathematical structure of quantum theory, the perturbation theory of linear operators, and harmonic analysis on Lie groups. The latter included research in problems of transcendentality and approximation, density-type results about the distribution of zeros of zeta- and L-functions, class number problems, and problems of the distribution of general multiplicative and additive functions.
