Solid State Scanner for Optical Character Readers.

Abstract

The report summarizes the results of work accomplished toward the development of a solid state scanner for optical character readers. Principal emphasis in this report is on the results of experiments in fabricating and testing representative exploratory sensor arrays of 576 scanning elements. A series of high resolution scanner matrix arrays having 24 rows by 24 columns was fabricated in order to evaluate the feasibility of proceeding to a full scanning system. A two-axis electronic scanning system was developed in conjunction with these matrix arrays. (Author)
