Dynamic Shear Strength of Shock-Loaded Granite and Polycrystalline Quartz

Abstract

Shock wave experiments were conducted to determine the behavior of the dynamic shear strength near the Hugoniot elastic limit (HEL) for two low-porosity silicate rocks. The materials studied were Westerly granite and Arkansas novaculite.
