Summary Report on the Development of an Improved Amplitude-Sensitive Ear Plug (INM-Modified V.51R),
Abstract
The need for ear defenders as a protection against weapon noise, and the practical difficulties arising from its use, are described. Details are given of a new type of plug, based on the currently issued Sonex V.51R pattern, together with an outline of the principles which led to its design. The results of an extensive series of laboratory and field trials are quoted to show the improvement in speech communication given by the new plug without detriment to its protection against gunfire noise.
