Second Post-Dump Survey of the CHASE X Disposal Site.

Abstract

The report describes the results of the second in a series of post-dump surveys made of the disposal site of the LeBaron Russel Briggs which was laden with obsolete nerve agent munitions and sunk 250 miles east of Cape Kennedy in 16,000 feet of water on 18 August 1970. The survey was made during the period 19-22 June 1971. Twenty-five water samples were taken on the bottom within a nautical mile of the hulk and were analyzed. Analyses of the water found it to be chemically the same as the analyses of the pre-dump samples. There were 7500 narrow-angle and wide-angle photographs taken in the vicinity of the BRIGGS. No dead animals could be detected in two detail scannings of the 7500 photographs. (Author)
