(Phi Sup 4)Sub 4 - Wavepackets. Addendum.

Abstract

In the previous paper (AD-713 998) the question of existence of spherically symmetric wavepackets governed by the nonlinear wave equation (phi sub tt) - (phi sub rr) - (2/r)(phi sub r) + lambda (phi cubed) = zero was considered in the four cases where phi is either independent of t or a periodic function of t and where lambda is either plus or minus one. In the first case ((phi sub t) is identically = 0, lambda = 1) it was shown that there are no wavepackets; in the second and third cases (lambda = -1) the existence of wavepackets was demonstrated, and in the last case some heuristic arguments were presented in support of the conjecture that wavepackets exist.
