Vegetation Density Determinations by Gamma Ray Absorption.
Abstract
A method of non-destructive determination of vegetation density in place is presented. This method utilizes a gamma ray absorption technique. The 122 keV gamma rays from Cobalt-57 were used for this work. The determinations are made using the principle of narrow beam absorption, observing the attenuation of the gamma ray photopeak produced in a 7.62 cm (3 in.) dia.X7.62 cm long solium-iodide scintillation crystal. Results of measurements performed at Eglin Air Force Base are included. (Author)
