Waves in Nonlinear Rate-Dependent Materials.

Abstract

A one-dimensional problem in dynamic viscoelasticity is formulated using a nonlinear constitutive law which admits wave propagation at constant speed. General similarity solutions are developed for the problem and their applicability to boundary value problems is discussed. An approximate solution is developed for an initial value problem based on a special case of the constitutive equation. The solution uses a two-time-variable regular perturbation technique. (Author)
