Visual Sensations Induced by Relativistic Muons.

Abstract

Light flashes induced by the passage of a pulse of extremely relativistic muons were recently observed in an experiment at the Brookhaven A.G.S. The flashes are similar to the bright diffuse lightning behind the cloud type of phosphene described by astronauts. Arguments are presented to show that the probable mechanism of these flashes is Cerenkov radiation. (Author)
