Explosive Fire-Line Cutting Device Based Upon Sheathed and Permissible Explosive Technology.

Abstract

An explosive fire-line cutting device based upon aqueous and aqueous retardant solutions surrounding an explosive core has been successfully tested. Because of logistic and handling problems, a dry retardant surround was desired as an alternative design concept. The literature of sheathed and permissible explosives was reviewed, and based upon coal mine incendivity tests, a tentative design and a series of tests involving dry powdered surrounds have been recommended for the purpose of determining device incendivity in forest and brushland fuels.
