Photoemission and the 'Five-Halves Law'.

Abstract

Use of the so-called five-halves law of photoemission does not lead to reliable estimates of the threshold potential ET. Improved extra-polation procedures are discussed, which yield self-consistent results in terms of the dependence of ET of the energy of the incident light, EL. The inherent threshold potential, EL - ET, is estimated to be 3.84 plus or minus 0.04 V vs. SCE. (Author)
