An Absolute Method of Piezo-Electric Accelerometer Calibration.

Abstract

A fundamental method of calibrating accelerometers has been developed which measures dynamic displacement, the essential and difficult parameter, by a pair of differentially coupled solar, silicon photo-cells which are calibrated statically against a length standard. The method employs a null technique, is fast in operation requiring only the adjustment of a precision, variable capacitor and is largely independent of vibrator, driving source waveform. The facility provides calibration in the frequency range 200 Hz to 5000 Hz at acceleration levels up to 50 'g' with an uncertainty not greater than plus or minus 3%. (Author)
