Hexacyanoferric (II) Acid and Copper (II) Hexacyanoferrate (II); Efficient, Energetic, Potentially Low Cost Burn Rate Additives.

Abstract

Preparation and some preliminary evaluation has been made of two potential new burn rate additives, hexacyanoferric (II) acid (H2Fe(CN)6) and copper (II) hexacyanoferrate (II) (Cu2Fe(CN)6). These compounds show promise of high efficiencies as additives to increase propellant burn rates. They are, in addition, potentially very inexpensive to produce and are sufficiently energetic that they would not degrade the specific impulse of propellants as much as the burn rate additives in current use. They also may not show the plasticizer migration and post-cure problems associated with ferrocene burn rate additives. (Author)
