National Attributes and Foreign Policy Output: Tests for a Relationship.

Abstract

The research explores the relationship of national attentiveness to national behavior at the event/interaction level. The international attention was found to be related to United Kingdom trade with 86 nations, the total international activity level of these nations, and how often they acted toward the United Kingdom. Two additional variables--the geographical distance between the United Kingdom and the 86 nations, and how conflictual the 86 were in their international behavior--were related to United Kingdom attentiveness. Additional effort was made to relate attention-source variables to United Kingdom action as mediated through United Kingdom attentiveness. (Author)
