Active Integrated Optics.

Abstract

The authors consider the problem of guiding light in thin dielectric films and that of actively interfering with the power of flow in the modes by means of the electrooptic and photoelastic effect. A review of the current state of the art and the potentialities suggested by theoretical considerations suggest that the basic functions of light generation, switching, guiding, and detection can be performed in a single monolithic material.
