Applications of Separable Nonlocal Potentials to Physical Problems.

Abstract

Three separate lines of research were pursued here. First, it was shown that nonlocal nonHermitian separable potentials of the first rank could be made to have more than one bound state and also give a real phase shift which would change sign. However, these desirable properties were overbalanced by the non-orthogonality of the bound state wave functions and the lack of symmetry of the t-matrix. Second, techniques for calculating the t-matrix for hard core+local potential were developed and the matrix elements compared with a corresponding potential without the hard core. Attempts to represent the exact t-matrix by a two term separable expression were unsuccessful. Finally, the matrix elements relevant to the photodisintegration of the deuteron were calculated using the newly developed one-Boson-exchange potentials for the nuclear force. (Author)
