Preliminary Tests in the Use of Stress-Wave Emission Analysis for the Detection of Cracking during Welding,

Abstract

Stress wave emission analysis techniques was used to detect cracking which occurs immediately after welding in CTS tests, butt-weld cracking tests and in the root pass of full-size butt welds. There is a correlation between the length of crack and the total area of the bursts of energy as recorded on an ultra-violet trace. (Author) between the length of crack and the total area of the bursts of energy as recorded on an ultra-violet trace. (Author)
