Structure Factor for Liquid Aluminum,

Abstract

The structure factor S(Q) for liquid aluminum is measured at 703C and 1029C in the region 0<Q<15 A using neutron diffraction techniques. A complete description of the experimental apparatus and procedure is presented as well as a detailed analysis of the method of reducing neutron intensity data on structure factor data. The results are compared with other simple liquid metals and the electrical resistivity is calculated using the Ziman formulation. The excellent agreement between the present calculated and experimentally observed resistivity, both in absolute value and in temperature dependence, lends credence to both the present structure factor data and to the Ziman formulation for resistivity.
