Representation of the Post-Fracture Mechanical Behavior of Nugget Sandstone.

Abstract

A constitutive representation of the stress-strain behavior of Nugget sandstone in a post-fractured state is developed. A conventional plasticity model is employed but special attention is given to two considerations. These are the lack of a definite yield point for some geologic materials, and the nature of the dependence of the stress-strain response on the loading path. A plasticity model is developed that appears appropriate for these considerations. This model is applied to laboratory data on fractured Nugget sandstone with good results. Because the laboratory data are not extensive, further work is needed to verify the general applicability of the model. (Author)
