A Practical Manual for Use of the Technicon (Trade Name) Autoanalyzer (Trade Name) in Seawater Nutrient Analyses; Revised.

Abstract

The manual describes the AutoAnalyzer system in use at Oregon State University. There are three chapters: Analyses; Components and construction principles; and an Abbreviated Troubleshooting Guide. In the section on analyses, procedures for the automated analysis of silicate, nitrate and nitrite, and phosphate are described. The analyses described generally show a coefficient of variation of about 1% under good operating conditions. The silicate analysis usually has a linear response (1%) up to an absorbance of about 1. The nitrate-nitrite analysis displays a deviation from linearity when the absorbance exceeds about 1. The phosphate analysis is linear at least up to a concentration of 7.5 micrometers. Discussions of interferences, salt error, comparison of automated vs. manual analysis, and data treatment are included for each analysis. (Author)
